A Piece of Advice for Persons that Like Avocets

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

The main point in the housing of birds is a right nourishment for them. Usually the cage birds are a type of granivorous ones they can be parrots, canaries, pigeons etc. But it doesn't intend them to eat only seeds. But in truth this sort of birds vary their food every time of the year in natural conditions. The ration may contain animal feed, different greens, fruits and tree barks. That's why the diversity of forages will keep your bird healthy.

Today you may get wild bird seed almost anywhere, even online. But you are not to feed your bird only with corn a whole year because it doesn't really correspond to diverse bird nourishment in nature.

From the first view you can not indicate any disease after feeding your bird with the same forage for years. But with some time diseases will be revealed. Ornithologists observe such diseases as the malfunction of molt, obesity, disorder of the reproductive function etc. All these cases are conditional on wrong feeding of birds. Also there can be many cases of infective diseases because birds need vitamins and proteins in their food.

Grain blend is the most necessary part in a bird's meal. Different sorts of grains (wheat, millet, oats, maize and others) and seeds (canary seed, herbage seeds, seeds of lettuce) must be contained in this mixture because it is really helpful for a bird's health. Of course there should be oil-yielding seeds such as sunflower seeds, poppy seeds, hemp seed and various nuts. Obesity can be provoked by oil-bearing seeds so you are to give small portions of them to elude overuse.

The Stop and Go Game

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

A friend of mine invented a game for his daughter when she was little and didn’t want to have her fingernails or toenails trimmed. Trying to force her didn’t work, because she would squirm around too much, so he made up the Stop and Go Game. Dad started a few feet away, holding the nail scissors. He told her that as soon as she said stop he would stop immediately, and he wouldn’t go again until she said go. If she didn’t say go after a while, he would say it himself, and he would stop the next time she said stop. He moved forward very slowly, stopping every time she told him to (he discovered it worked best if he froze in a silly way each time). Later, he had to add a rule that she couldn’t just say “stop-stop-stop-stop-stop” real fast. Eventually, the nails were cut, and even more importantly, they had fun doing it instead of fights and tantrums and frustration. Stopping when she said stop built up her trust that he wouldn’t hurt her, and continuing to go (slowly) meant that he wasn’t giving in or giving up. He was in charge of deciding when nails needed to be cut; she was in charge of how fast it would be done.

Two-Year Fashion Design Degrees Gaining Popularity

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

With student fashion shows proliferating across the country, the number of students enrolling in fashion degree programs is rising. One of the most popular degrees is the two-year fashion degree, allowing graduates to enter the industry more quickly, or pursue a four-year degree with better preparation.

Fashion Degrees Gaining Steam
Fashion degree programs have been around since the 1940s, when students first started earning education toward becoming designers at a fashion design school in Washington. Today, fashion degree programs are popping up everywhere, at community colleges and four-year schools alike.

Many students opt for the two-year program for its flexibility, affordability, and shorter degree track. Students in a Pennsylvania two-year fashion degree program enjoy sketching and apparel classes as well as field trips to New York’s garment district to find materials for their original designs. These students get to participate in student-produced shows, just like four-year degree students. The best preparation for a career in fashion is still a four-year degree, but a two-year degree is becoming a more and more viable option for future designers.

How, Where and When Basketball Was Invented

Monday, May 21st, 2007

Everywhere you turn in the US you will find youths playing basketball. so universal is it that you could be forgiven for thinking that its origins must be steeped in history. Yet, unlike most balls sports, it did not gradually evolved from some ancient roots. In fact, it was a certain Dr. James Naismith who, quite deliberately, invented the game in 1881. And from there it has grown to be one of the most popular sports in the United States. Dr. Naismith was actually born in Canada, and if he hadn’t been living in Massachusetts when he created it, it’s possible it wouldn’t have made such a huge hit.

Prior to shifting to Massachusetts Dr Naismith worked as the athletics director at the University of McGill in Montreal for several years. In Massachusetts he worked with the YMCA Training School. Here Dr Naismith was looking for a game that the students would be able to play indoors. For during the winter months it was difficult to play outdoors. The first game of basketball was played with a soccer ball and two peach baskets. They used a broom stick to push the ball back out of the basket. It was later that holes were cut in the bottom of the basket to look like the hoop and net that we see today.

Differentiated Instruction and Assessment

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

If teaching were as simple as using the one best way to teach everything, it would be considered more of a science. However, there isn’t just one best way to teach everything and that’s why teaching is an art. If teaching meant simply following a text book and using the ’same size fits all’ approach, then anyone could teach, right? That’s what makes teachers and especially special educators unique and special. Long ago, teachers knew that individual needs, strengths and weaknesses must drive instructional and assessment practice. We’ve always known that children come in their own individual packages and that no two children learn the same way even though the curriculum may be the same. Instructional and assessment practice can (and should) be different to ensure that learning happens.

2 weeks to a better orgasm

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Ah, kegels — the classic sexercise. Just squeeze the muscles you would use to stop urine midstream, hold for as long as you can, release, then squeeze again. But can anything that easy or that old (Dr. Arnold Kegel, a gynecologist, came up with them in the ’40s) really make orgasms bigger and better? “Yes,” says Laura Berman, Ph.D., the president and director of Chicago’s Berman Center, which specializes in women’s health. “Strengthening your pelvic floor muscles and your transverse abdominals brings more blood to your pelvic region, increases the amount of friction you can generate, and intensifies contractions during orgasm.” Wow. What are you waiting for? (more…)
