What's the fuss about project management
Tuesday, August 12th, 2008There are four components to professional task management: cost, schedule, duration and producing a satisfactory result. Qualified project managers also try to make the organization of business processes more efficient. Take any project and you will see that it requires people, money and tools to produce needed results. To manage projects effectively you need to handle a number of things. A couple of them can be found in the next paragraph:
- Goal setting and reviewing achievement.
- Handling risks. Most have a certain degree of risk.
- Assigning and managing resources.
- Determining the products of the project.
- Managing what is going on: giving out jobs, controlling execution.
- Managing quality.
- Managing changes. Circumstances change. The majority of projects develop in time, so the element of change should be properly considered.
- Communicating with sponsors and participants of the project.
To manage these issues you can use pen and paper or probably MS EXCEL. However, you get some interesting advantages if you decide to use project tracking software:
